    Default new 3.2V6 cambelt guidance

Mrs GSi has just received a letter today, calling her signum in for it's annual service..

The dealership have also drawn her attention to the fact that the reccomended cambelt change interval now for V6's is 40,000 miles..and would she like hers done at the same time??....

    You can guess her response....

    I'll get my tools..

Vauxhall always do this ..... promise something they can't deliver.

I remember getting a new Vectra-B years ago and taking it for its second service (36K) and the service reception bullying into getting the camblet changed for an extra £350 ontop of the service.

Vx have changed the cambelt interval ..... yours could snap, because we have made you aware of it you wont be covered blah blah blah

So what your saying after all those arguements a little while ago about cambelts is that VX have changed their milage to the 40k you suggested???? what a surprise. my guess is that there will be a few 3.2's in the garage soon

LOL.. i don't think that they necesarily listen to me, but yes..it seems that conventional workshop 'wisdom' has borne itself out to be true again, and that they have revised their mileage limits on our 3.2 belts.....

anyway..i've already done a couple of folks on here's cars at the 40,000 marker..there's 2 more in our household to do as well..so i'll be getting plenty of practice thankyou....

around that figure yes, although it may well pay you to shop around as when Harry was looking into getting his V6 CDTi cambelt changed , his quotes varied enormously..

Only 40,000 That's not many miles to have such major servicing. My cavalier was 60,000 cambelt change, things seem to be going backwards instead of forwards

did you have a MK3 ecotec?.. that would have been the old reccomended limit, but they had a nasty habit of breaking the tensioners around 60K, so we always used to try and get them swapped out around 40K anyway..and then when they upped the limit to 80K.....had some nice breakages then....

for the petrol ecotec engines, no-one will convince me to keep a belt on there longer than 40K, i've seen ( and fixed) too many that have gone wrong....
