Thumbs down Vec C second last in Germany

    Hello

The german magazine "Auto Motor & Sport" compares 11 "medium-sized" diesels.

    http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/t...rtung_cars.htm

The 1,9 Tdi (150) was second last (followed only by SAAB 9-3 with the same engine)

    Translation of judgement:

"Best available space after the VOLKSWAGEN, but large loser in the comfort. The seats of the Vectra are uncomfortable, the engine hum, the handling are only average. Good all-round visibility"

I can`t comment the engine (there are almost no diesels in privatecars in Sweden due to taxes) but I agree when it comes to comfort.

The seats are much to firm and can´t be lowered enough. The lumbar support is far too pronounced. The clutch pedal isn´t on the same "level" as the brake pedal so you have to lift the whole leg much more than usually.
The accelerator is too close to the floor compared whith the brake pedal.
The stickshift should be placed a little bit forward and the armrest (when closed) forces you to twist your wrist when you change gear. The gearbox isn´t smooth when you are changing from first to second gear.

All this together makes the car uncomfortable to drive

If it wasn´t for the engine i would be longing for my last Mondeo

    Best regards

    Seen that test ....

Also seen another new german test with Vectra, Mondeo and Passat ... and the Vectra scores highest in comfort of the three, with the words: Vectra sets the standard in comfort.

In the same test the Vectra also scores highest in quality!

I take comparisons with a pinch of salt. It's normally one persons views.

The only way to tell for sure is to test drive all the cars yourself.

True !! ..... a little bit funny that in one test, its the worst comfort and in another one the best .... but its all up to the person who tests the car ...
Im quite tall, and i find the seats in the Vectra very good!

I can say that before i went for the new Vectra i tested a MB C200 kompressor, and the Vectra in my opinion beats the MB in every way.

Also, just to add, it depends very much on who has what adverts in which magazine, if you see my meaning. i.e. a magazine is not going to slate a company who is spending £5k a month on adverts are they?

    True

Problem is testdriving for 4 hours or more. It´s first then you notice if your back aches.

Auto Express in the Uk gave it a very good write up, narrowly missing top spot to the Vw Passat. My main concern is the drop in spec in SRi model which would put me off buying a facelift. It's no cheaper though even though quite a bit is missing in comparison to my 03 plate. Design or Elite for me next March i think. Or possibly the Zafiria (due to family lumber!!)

I too find the seats firm!!!!

I find the bit about "Good all-round visibility" interesting. IMHO the Vectra C has fairly poor visibility compared to many cars - or has this been improved in facelifted versions? (We won't get the facelift in Australia...)

The magazine Test Drive had a family car test in it last month and the Veccy came second out of about 10 or 12 cars.

Do you brake with your left foot? I use different feet for the clutch and brake, so the pedals being different heights wouldn't really be a problem.
