Default Check 3rd Centre Brake Light

We are occasionally getting the warning check centre brake light, this will some times come on when starting the car (foot on brake pedal!), when checking the centre rear brake light sometimes one or two or more of the LED's are not working, then it seems to fix its self and they all will work, then other times different LED's will not work and they ones that were not working before are working. Has any one had this problem and is there a solution? The dealers here have said the whole unit, needs to be replaced at a high cost, i wonder if it could be a poor connection some where, or possibly a voltage thing, dry solders, that could be easily fixed, any ideas? Thanks

if you remove the boot hatch cover , you'll be able to get to the elctrical connector of the lamp unit to see if any joints are corroded..you'll also be able to release the lamp unit from the holder as well for a closer look..

the boot liner is only fitted on with plastic fittings and a few screws.. it's not hard to take off yourself..

Sounds like a faulty electrical connection....or the brake light it`s about to die....play with the electrical plug and check is making good contact all around
