    Angry Ouch! Bu99er!

Just queuing off the M1 at J14 today, thinking what a nice morning it is after yesterday's tornadoes, when my reverie was rudely interrupted by some prat in an old Saab running straight in the back of me!
He's creased the bumper and put a dimple in it, where his number plate screws hit.
I got his details, but wrote his registration down wrong. Anyone know how I can get a proper number from a partial one?
Anyway, it's got to go in to the body shop, who think it's a new bumper job. And now my back's starting to hurt from the whiplash.

So much for a nice day........

    Phil

Im sure that your insurance company will find out his reg number if you give them the details you have..
Let them deal with it, thats what they are paid for.

Or goto tesco's ( or someones else's ) insurance website and enter varying versions of the reg number you have untill it gives you the correct car details then you know you have the correct number..

    Noooooo!!! What a bummer m8!!

Even though you got his reg wrong, did you not get his name and insurance company at least? You must have got more than his reg otherwise how would you know which insurance company he is with?

Hope you get it sorted soon.

I know how to do this at work using the PNC, just a shame I can't help you that way. Do you know which part of the reg you got wrong... is it just one particular letter?

Oh, yes, I got his insurance details (he had his certificate with him, luckily). I'm just annoyed with myself that I didn't get the most fundamental bit!
The body shop have been on -if it's just a bumper replacement they can get it in, spray it up and just get the car in to fit it. I'll nip in on the way home (not really on the way -I work in MK and live in Luton, and they're in Houghton Regis, but it's not too far out), and see what they say.
My back's starting to ache now -might have to go to the quack's tomorrow, so there's a record of it..

If you have back ache, that makes it a "reportable" accident as you have an injury... therefore you should report to your local Police Station, with all your driving documents. Take the details that you have and they might (should) be able to confirm the reg number for you!!! You have to report "within 24 hours of the incident, but as soon as practicable".

I think it's the last letter, which I put down as an o, which is not a legal character. I've been around the DVLA website trying to track it down, but I can't seem to get a match. I suppose I should leave it to the insurance company, but it's frustrating not having the full info.

See my last post mate.... if you have part of the reg, and know the make, model and colour, it should be no problem for them to confirm the reg. Alternatively if you have the postcode then they should be able to trace the vehicle easily.
