1.9 CDTi engine rattle

just got home from work and notice a loud engine rattle when I got out of car and it get's worse when the A/C switched on

any idea's

Has anyone else had the same sort of problem or is it just one those "Its a Diesel sir" as the dealer would say

Erm, its a diesel it will rattle! But do you mean it rattles worse than before? low oil level maybe?

is it tinny or like a tinkering. Is it definately from the engine compartment...

More tinkering and sound's more from the front of the engine. When im in the car can't hear anything

Oil just under max so that's ok

All the time? just when cold? only at idle? or under constant rpm?

Mine sounds slightly rattly when stationary, gearbox in neutral. Press clutch in, and it goes almost silent

Mainly on idle but take up the rev's by rest your foot lightly on the go pedel noise gose away

clutch release bearing?

not really it's deffo outside of the gearbox. I was thinking I might be the main A/C compressor bearing cos it dose get louder switching it on!
