MattB's VXR Driver ofthe Year Pics!

Sunday 23rd September 2007 at the Raceway in Kings Cross was the last round of the VXR Driver of the Year Semi-Finals.

The Raceway is an indoor circuit, which is quite tight and offers few overtaking opportunities:


Here I am; all suited up and ready to go and keenly supported by my good Wife.


I was in the last round of the session so there were already some very fast times on the board. It's only the top 12 times of the session that go through to the Grand-Prix stage. Most rounds had 8 drivers but mine had 12!

As you can see, I was fully focussed before the start of my round.


Apparently, one of these is me:


....and this one's definitely me!


Unfortunately, I was a couple of seconds per lap off the best times so I didn't make the grand-prix or the final. My excuses are; being caught up in traffic and having some **** spin in front of me. Nevermind though, I had a great time and that's what counts.

Actually, Tom Chilton was also caught in traffic. As a result, he was lapping in the 57's, just like me!

He was involved in an 'all-stars' race, which included the organisers and sponsors. Stu Harris was also taking part.

I was keenly watching the data screens. The best time of the day was just a shade under 55 seconds.

If Tom Chilton had trouble overtaking at The Raceway, I don't know how any of the rest of us were supposed to! Of course, it did pass my mind that he might not have been trying too hard!

Any proper race driver on a race circuit is going to try hard !!!

If he doesnt, he should be SACKED - lol

Oops, my glamorous assistant and campaign manager (read Wife) has informed me that mine (and Tom Chiltons) lap times were actually 47 seconds and the fastest time of the day was a shade under 45 seconds.
