Default My Thoughts on the 17's

As my car originally came with 18" whels from the factory, I then upgraded to the 19's which I think saw a slight increase in the hardness etc.

Now I have fitted the 17" GSi rims, it is so much better over the bumps and more comfortable.

But the biggest thing I have noticed is the extra grip in the wet over the 19's, with the 19's there is no give in the side wall so it used to spin like a ***** in the wet. Now you can drive pretty much as hard as you like in the wet and it does not spin!!! It also feels better on the bends as well.

I know nothing will look at good as the 19's and if I was not doing the miles I would have kept them and put up with the harder ride but I am really happy with the car again!!!

Just thought I would share that with you.

Think the wet depends on your tyres, I have Toyo`s on my 19`s and they won`t spin, wet or dry, I find them the best tyres in the wet I have experienced so far.

I have to agree with you on the ride though, I think you notice it more going from 19 to 17 rather than going up to 19`s. When I get in a veccie taxi now it feels o so smooooth .....

Can't say I notice a lot of difference between my car and the works car. Then again, the works car is driven 'differently'.

I hope the works car is driven with a reasonable amount of care as I am paying for it.

no mate. my dealership done me a swap on a car that was going back to vauxhall as my mates a salesman there. sadly vauxhall twigged and want their 18s back or full price +invoice for 4 tyres as the ones on my 17s were shot.

bad luck really as the donor cars paperwork just said standard alloys but there you go ya win some ya lose some. Goingto get my sri ones refurbed and new tyres when i get them back as garage is lending me some steelies and going to sort me a deal. Theyre on the lookout for some 19"s as well or another set of 18"s so will see what happens

blimey! depending on how much you value that dealer i'd tell em to go ferk off. Its their problem, not yours. Thats if you can be bothered with all the hassle.

I've gone the other way (oooerr missus), from 16"s to 17"s and the difference is remarkable in ride and handling/cornering, still got that bl**dy wobble at 65-70 though after having them balanced twice at different places, and the alignments been done, might go for two new tyres on the front but the NCT5's are so dear, decisions decisions
