Question HELP 2.2dti Sri or 1.9 CDTI 150 Sri

A little help people thinking of changing my 05 plate 1.9 CDTI 150 Sri with 105,000 for a 03 plate 2.2dti Sri with 52,000 miles !

Reason is primarily because of the high milage on mine and the fact it is a taxi and does over a thousand miles a week and its starting to get a bit rough on the edges , other reason is i absolutely love the ultra blue colour with the chrome window strips.

My auld silver ones is a bit common now and loads of them on taxi's in newcastle !

There is a lad here in the toon who has a 2.8 turbo vxr on the taxi's in that really cool blue but my finances will not stretch to that just yet !!!!

    Thanks
    Andy

Depends how rough around the edges it is.....modern diesels will go for hundreds of thousands of miles with no problems. And I'd rather have the 1.9 that the 2.2...

2.2 is rougher more traditional diesel, having driven both I got very tired with the turbo-lag on the 1.9 150 and own a 2.2 DTi, they've both got their problems, egr valve, split hoses etc... But with the 2.2 you've got 20 000 service intervals, simple non common rail diesel, timing chain so no belt to change. I only do about 30 000 miles a year but have found the 2.2 great to run once the initial problems were ironed out.

I will need a clutch very soon and flywheel is well rattly and am scared inlet manifold will go too!

I have the oppertunity to hand it back to the finance company as half of h.p is now paid.

I do love the car like done about 28,000 with a rattly flywheel and touching the auld formica computer desk only real problem has been seized water pump which nearly snapped the timing belt so a was lucky but really av done nowt else to it but service it , pads , discs and tyres !
Dont think thats bad for 105,000 miles thats like 10 years driving to a normal car but i've done it in 2 years

I'd keep the 1.9 - you'll end up spending more on fuel for the 2.2 for a start. I've read a few reports that the 2.2Dti's can tend to use a fair bit of engine oil too, which could get really costly if you do a lot of miles.

My 2.2 DTi didn't use a drop of oil in all the time I had it. It is more tractable than the 1.9 and once up and rolling, it wouldn't be too far behind.

I had severe problems with mine, but mine was a baddun. If well maintained, the 2.2 should go the distance.
