Q . Are they standard to your car.
    A . No.
    Modified from the original spec.
You need to tell them to be sure.

My insurance company (Directline) told me this when i enquired about fitting Snowflakes to my 55 plate 1.9cdti (150) sri.
"As my car didn't leave the factory with these wheels fitted i am modifying the car by fitting them." When i argued that they are a standard upgrade i was again told the above. When i added them to my policy Directline charged me an extra £86 for the 6 months that remained on my policy and changed my excess to £400 from £150 for accidental damage. I'll be changing insurance companies in January when i get my renewal in! .

yep insurance companies will look at everything on an inspection of a damaged car and will refuse paying out if you aint told them about anything if they notice it !!!

Right, on this Forum we are all car enthusiast's, so know the difference in what it should and shouldnt have, but...

Imagine you are Joe Public, and know nothing about Cars, buy one and smash it up, and it turns out it has Snowflakes rather than SRi wheels on it. Hw are you to know they are standard or not if you know nothing about cars.

I think this is a really grey area. It makes sense to tell them if you have changed them and you know about it, but what if you DIDNT know??

^^ I've thought that myself, but knowing how insurance companies try to find any way they can to avoid a payout, they'll go strictly by the book and say "ignorance is no excuse". Fact is, the car is modified if non-standard wheels are on there and it's up to you to get it checked out before buying insurance.
Even if you didn't know what wheels should be on there, it could quite possibly be a case of "tough luck matey" unfortunately....
