    Honestly?

Change it for something else You'll never get huge power gains from the 1.8.

You can start by doing the airbox mod (look in the How2 section) and changing the air filter for a K&N performance one. After that, it starts getting expensive, because you're looking at peformance exhausts and ECU remaps.

lol - thats a bit harsh...

    Presumably you mean more power....

Firstly, I dont know a great deal about 1.8 engines. But I do know that unless its turbo charged you will spend a shed load of money and get small power gains. Paul is exactly correct that you are better off trading it in and getting a more powerful car for the same money.

However, you could have a NOS kit fitted for about £600-£800 and that will give you more power, but unless you are disciplined in its use, you will need an new engine at some point.

If you want more 'punch' with regards to styling..... Ian-T and Payney both run 1.8 cars and they look fantastic and sound fantastic.... are you sure you want more power, or are you looking for some mods to make it look more stylish... cruise heaven !!

Also, one of the cheapest ways to make you car feel more powerful.... is actually fitting sports suspension and a big brake kit.... I know it sounds daft, but by fitting stuff that makes it stop quicker and maintain speed round corners... makes you quicker !!! .... and the suspension will make you feel like its a totally different car, honestly !! (what I am trying to say is dont be totally focussed on straight line speed as you will never be happy !!)

I've seen less powerful cars beat more powerful cars because they can handle better

A good assesment Steve, take my old beast, not the fastest off the blocks, but damn near impossible to beat on the twisties.

Air box mod with panel filter will help, you could go for a stainless exhaust from someone like Powerflow or Longlife, then get a remap. Sort the suspension out too and it'll feel a lot quicker.

I agree with Spoons on the suspension thing as I have just done my and it was the best mod I have ever done. Limpet and Glue spring to mind. Defo makes it feel faster esp on roundabouts! Have Strut brace as well adds to the improvement.Have the K and N cone fitted to mine and twin exhaust. Thinking of getting a remap but John at Thorney Motorspots said likely gain to be 10bhp or there abouts and will set me back £350. Car feels it just needs a few tweeks to finish it off so might give it a go I know its no going to the fastest Vectra out there by a long long way but it might be the fastest 1.8
