    Default oil grade 1.9 cdti??

Just had car serviced at independant garage today. It's a 56 plate 1.9 cdti. They used genuine VX parts and stamped the book all ok. when I've looked at service book though I noticed that it says all diesel engines come from the factory with oil grade GM-LL-B-025 SAE 5W-40. When I look at todays service they have ticked the GM-LL-A-025 box and put in fully synthetic 5W-30 oil. i hope to God they aint put the wrong oil in!!!! Does anyone know coz garage is closed now til monday. Got a receipt with all the parts numbers on aswell

in laymans terms...b####er all as far as your car is concerned....

just don't forget that the reccomended service interval has been 1/2d to 10,000 miles now ( VX have had trouble with the 20,000 interval) so keep that oil fresh...

the reduction in interval means that the longlife oil is more or less redundant in diesels..

So will the next service will be in 10k miles or a year whichever occurs first?? God I do about 16k a year so if thats right its going to be well less than a year. Are vx letting punters know about this new interval or could I plead ignorance in the future??? Sorry to sound dense but what is long life oil?? Is that synthetic??

longlife oil is fully synthetic designed for long drain intervals..VX are doing a quiet introduction of the reduced intervals ( they don't want to admit they got it wrong), so i'd stil drain at every 10,000..an oil change is cheaper that a new engine, and your engine and turbo love clean oil....and don't forget diesels are harder on their oils than petrol cars..they soot it up so much quicker..

if it helps sway you, i change my oil every 6,000 miles ( as it's cheap for me to do it) and my cars seem to see over 200,000 miles quite easily..

To be honest I want to look after my motor but more importantly am bothered about keeping to correct intervals for the warranty. What then is the crack with this? Since it says 1 year or 20k in my service book do you think I would get away with once a year? If i continued to go to independant garages and, for instance, wasn't a member of this site how then would I know about the new intervals?? Does it apply to cars newer than mine or is mine included?? (apologies for all the Qs mate!!)

Just looked at VX website and seen the new intervals at 10k or yearly but WHAT the hell is flexi service?? It says every 15k or yearly. Will this apply to my car and if so how will I find out?? This is more akin to my yearly mileage. This seems a tad confusing or is it just me being a little slow on the uptake??

The log book states 20,000 miles or 1 year which ever is FIRST!.
I had mine serviced (1st year sevice) at local dealers and they used 10-40w semi-synthetic oil. When i asked them about this they said they "Use this to keep the service cost's down."
I'll be specifying the long life stuff for the 2nd year service in January.

I would be most unhappy with that, mine uses 5w-30 meaning viscosity and temperature range, with winter rating, (There is a post about Oil specs. on the site...Somewhere) either way, by increasing from a 5-10 the oil is inappropraite for cold starts.

If they shove 10-40 in my little endgine when it desires 5w-30 at it's service next month, they can drain it and put proper specified oil in.....

Why has this been changed?? It seems to be more profitable for VX to instigate this than use the less profitable correct oil
