Default Shield under engine on a petrol?

    Hi all,

my better halfs vectra diesel estate has a large black plastic shield underneath the engine. So big you canot see the road if you look through the engine bay.
My petrol 1.8 sxi vectra has what may be a bit of one left on the underside at the front ( its a long story why there may not be one there if there i meant to be!). So the question is do Petrol Vectras 1.8sxi have this shield or not? and if not can I fit one as strangley enough a friend of mine has one for sale (which I hope he hasnt taken from mine)

I believe most new cars have this skid pan.

Its to protect the underside from catching on speed bumps. The downside is that they hide any damage as well.

I would imagine that they are universal fit. Since he is a mate, fit it first then buy it.........

Mines a 2002 Vectra C which is one of the first ones made I think. will need to look underneath I suppose and see if there are holes already made to screw the skid pan to (knew there was a technical name for a large bit of black plastic )

I believe it's only fitted to diesels to help reduce the noise on the drive-by sounds tests as part of the regs. Stops some of the noise 'escaping' from the bottom of the engine bay out.

Don't think it will TBH. As above I'm sure it's to dampen noise you hear at the roadside for the drive-by noise tests.
