Default CDTi MPG? do i have a problem?

I dont know if i have a problem or not. Its regarding my mpg.

When i first got the car with 17K on it, it was doing 42mpg round town (26mpg in my 2.2). Yet on a run it would only do 49.9 mpg (36 in the 2.2)

    On a few steady runs to York i did get it to 55mpg which gave a range of 721miles but this is rare. Most times the mpg is now as follows;

38mpg round town and 46mpg on a 80-85 mph run.

Why has it dropped? I found i had a slow front offside puncture which i keep topping up (its nearly at the limit so waiting to replace it) and according to the book its another 7K to its first service (30K).

Do you think my slow puncture and the long service interval has anything to do with it?
What do your 150cdti's do when driven with ease? (truthfully)

For info, i drive with aircon switched on all the time (and always have done in both my veccys)

I would bet it's down to the servicing schedule mate. 27,000 miles without an oil or filter change will effect the MPG I reckon. But I'm no expert!

Have you still got a tuning box attached?

I normally get around 45-46mpg on a daily basis. I do drive it reasonably hard and most of my driving is Motorway. To be honest I don't really drive with ease, but I'll try this week and let you know.

No tuning box at the minute, totally standard. If I drive it hard, it doesn’t really seem to make much difference. Eg 90-100 all the way to trax and I still got 46mpg. Drive like miss daisy and it goes up to 49mpg.

Round town its always 38ish now which is a mix of 'enthusiastic' driving by me and 'mum with young child' driving by the misses.

Going to the last Rother Valley meet I did take it reasonably easy as I had a Facelift C following me and I got 48mpg.

Have it serviced early mate and see what you get then.

The two different drivers are probably not helping with the so-called intelligent ECU.

I've just done a quick test for you Andy. On the way home tonight I reset my Computer. This is what readings I got.

Admittedly it was only for 15.6miles. I wasn't driving Miss Daisy but I was watching the figures.

Most of the trip was motorway apart from 4 miles dual carriageway at 50mph and a few miles at 30mph.

I still don't understand why the average speed is 36mph, as I reckon the average must of been over 40 maybe 50mph and cruising???

As I've said before my normal average is normally about 46mpg.

    58mpg?

Is that with the box on? I know Matt said something about the box playing tricks with the figures. Are you able to do a test without the box on another day and see if it makes any difference so i have a comparison of totally standard cars?

The box isn't on mate. I'm waiting to get my car into Vx to have the exhaust fumes smell looked at.

I have got a K&N Panel Filter and Powerflow rear exhausts

The best I've ever had from mine was on a run to Birmingham when I got 49.something, otherwise it is normally an average of about 45ish. 58 is incredible, I think I might have a look at my engines breathing!
