    Default Knocking/Banging from rear susp

I have a 2004 2.2 sri and have a knock from what seems to be the nsr. the local main dealer have had the car twice and so far i've spent over 300 notes on the rear suspension arms but the noise is still there.
They've assured me its not the anti roll bar bushes but now say they are going to try the shocks! Has anyone any ideas as they seem to be as useful as a blow up dartboard

To be honest the shocks would have been my first port of call as they are well known for having a very short life on the Veccy C.....

Try a few search's cause things like the Hatch not being adjusted properly has also given a thud from the rear....

Hmm, well they just want to sell parts rather than actually find out what is wrong....

rather than just fit new bits, how about testing the old ones first..and you can test the dampers just by removing one end bolt from the damper..

if i had to guess, i'd start with anti roll bar bushes , closely followed by dampers with suspension bushes/arms a firm last place..

They've adjusted the rear catch also, twice!! as they messed it up first time. I'll probably replace D shape bushes myself as they can't be expensive and probably swap the shocks over to see if the noise moves. The damn noise only happens when its cold and only for the first 2 miles of driving, then you can't hear it

rather than swop the shocks left to right...take them off and try to see if they move smoothly and 'valve' correctly..or if any oill is leaking out of them..

the 'only when cold' and then for a short distance does make me think it's not suspension though as if it was, it would do it all the time...

I firstly thought it was exhaust as that would expand when hot but vaux say its definately not that, the only poss explanation with the shock is, as its driven the oil in the shock is moving about and improves after a short distance. I can't even get it to make the noise by pushing the car up and down when cold. Its a strange one!!

My other halves vectra c estate has had a knocking noise at the back, Thought it was the shocks but turned out to be the rear brakes which had been fitted by ATS 6 months back. You havent changed your pads have you?
