Default Noisy tyres and juddering clutch solved.

Hi,After speaking with my dealer about the noisy tyres on my Vectra 1.8vvt they said i could buy brand new ones for the discounted price of £45 each fitted. This was for Dunlops.I initially agreed but asked to take out a similar car with different tyres to mine to listen to the noise.

I went out in a 1.8 sri 07 plate and while the tyres where slightly quieter than mine, there wasn't that much difference.I'd say about 10% quieter.

After this test drive it was quite a shock because i thought the other car would be whisper quiet.I wasn't prepared to pay £180 to have my tyres changed for the sake of 10% difference.

I since have had the clutch replaced under warranty today(modified clutch from Vauxhall, lovely and smooth again instead of juddering up the street!) and they gave me a Corsa 07 plate car for the day.The noise in this car was even worse than the veccy and there was a constant droning sound from underneath. The tyres that were on this car where Goodyears so i have come to the conclusion that its not all the tyres fault more that its lack of sound proofing because all the cars i have driven with different tyres sound the same as mine.

I have since put 2 layers of underfelt in the boot and that made a big difference.I then temporaryly fitted underlay felt under the bonnet card. This made a massive difference to the sound and have now been looking into buying a felt material that is fire proof.

This is what i'm thinking of getting...

So anyone else thinks that their tyres are noisy then unless you can get them for free i wouldn't bother with the expense.Sound deaden the car instead.

the boot soundproofing might explain why mines ok, cos its always full to the brim so no room for sound to travel at the back.

oh yes!!!, and ask them to fit the newly released 'upgrade' parts that eliminate clutch judder on the 1.8's...only released in the last few weeks, so they will know.. if they play dum, ask them to call VX tech Services and ask about the upgrade..

06 defo get it down the dealers. Seam to be quite a few 1.8's with this problem.
As for sound deafening, try roofing felt, its just like dynomatt but a hell of a lot cheaper.

Get you car down to the dealers asap. There are a few of my threads on here about the clutch judder.Print some of them off and take them with you.My dealer initially tried to fob me off and say that there was nothing wrong with the 1.8's.After showing him some of these threads he changed his mind and got onto Vauxhall, who very quickly came back with a case number.I had to wait for approx 2 months while they got stocks supplied but i kept on at them and today it's been changed.(Mine was the first one they had done).Anyway lovely and smooth now and the car seems more responsive and the gear change from 1st to second is better.

They change the flywheel as well for some reason.

The new clutch is out there now so don't be fobbed off

if the clutch has worn the flywheel surface 'oddly' then the new unit will still judder.... so they swap the entire unit..
