Default Air Con On - Power Gone

Don't know if I've posted this on here before, if so, sorry in advance

    Got a 1.9CDTI 150BHP.

When I have the air con on and try to pull away in 1st - most often than not I've got little power available. It goes like a snail for a second or two, and then picks up - great on roundabouts

Is it that I'm just not putting my foot down enough, is it normal, or not!!!

    thanks
    Richard

Well for a start you'll always have some turbo lag, and air con sucking the life out of your engine will only make it worse. I would say its normal, and although many would disagree when I was in a CDTi I just used to ride the clutch a bit for a quicker set off at roundabouts etc.

When i have the a/c on in my 2.2 petrol i need to give it a little more gas when pulling away. So IMO it is normal.

The 1.9CDTi does seem to suffer from bad turbo lag, so the air-con taking a little bit of power away additionally wouldn't help.

Can't say I've noticed any such problem with my 2.0T petrol.

My 1.8 is awful. Its ok if the air con is on low, but if you have it on full wack it just hates moving, if i take my foot off the accelerator you slow right down. TBH even the braking seems to be affected when its on full go, cant think how that makes sense.

    Roll on next May time

1.9 CDTI = Lotsa torque, loadsa lag.

2.0T = Lotsa torque, no lag.

I had a 1.8 before and would agree. Momentum builds up much more quickly in the 2.0T, and is maintained for longer if you take your foot off the accelerator. In addition full torque is from 2500 rpm which is almost diesel territory. Best of both worlds....even if it does burn more fuel.

Mine is a pig trying to pull away with the Aircon on. Plenty of revs and a slight slip of the clutch seems to be the tecnique. Wonder if a remap would improve matters?
