Default Problems with the DVLA - Help!

On 24th December last year i wrote off my old Vectra B after hitting a roundabout at 30mph!

Anyway, it was written off by the Insurance Company and i got paid out a nice £3400 for a V Plate SRi Vectra.

I got home from work today, and found a letter from the DVLA thats a final reminder that i owe them £80 for relicensing he car!

I havent owned it for 9 months!

SO i phoned the number on the latter, nly to be told "We dont discuss individual cases"

So i phoned another DVLA number, and got through to a bloke called Tim, he also told me that they cannot discuss it, i have to speak to the people on the number i originally called!

I told him what they had said, and he informed me that i have to put it all in writing and enclose any reciept's for the car's sale. I explain it was written off and i have no paperwork for the car, to which he replies that i have no choice but to pay the fine, as without proof there is nothing that can be done!

I refuse to pay for something which i did not own at the time of the offence. I sent all the paperwork off to the Insurance Company at the time, so have no evidence that the car was written off!

    Help!

You don't have the information, but the insurance company must. Get them to sort out their mistake.

    Refer all correspondence to them.

the best bets to give your insurance company a call they should be able to tell you what happened to the car i expect its been repaired and put back on the road by the people who had it stored but the insurance company should be able to give you copies of the paper work i should think

I'd phone your insurers Ben, tell them that they have failed in their duty of Notification of Scraping the vehicle to the DVLA. Tell them you want them to contact the DVLA and to sort it out right now.. And then tell them you'll be phoning back in an hour to make sure its done...

Right, have changed Insurance Companies in June, and they still as of now have not come forward with my confirmation of No Claims, i had to give Adrian Flux the previous Insurer's details and get them to sort itm so what chance do i have with something like this!

I as going to do the same with the DVLA, just give them their number and my old policy number and get them to sort it!

Best bet is to try not to speak to a monkey but to a manager, either that or speak to their legal department..

Write a short letter to DVLA explaining what has physically happened to the car and on what date, and that the Ins company now own it (to do with as they will) and that is the end of the matter as far as you are concerned.

I had to do the same when I traded my old car (I forgot to send the selling bit of V5C), all done nicely, no issues and I didn't pay anything.
