Talking A favour off the dealers!???

Result at last! After our veccy being poorly for quite some time now it was finally diagnosed as the secondary cam chain jumping two teeth. On tuesday we were quoted £200 for parts and £800 for labour. After a few words from hubby and wanting to take the car to an independant they asked if our book had been stamped by vaxhaull from new, which it had, unfortunately the last stamp should have gone on in April but because we were still under the acceptable anual milage they offered to do us a favour because we were loyal customers and would make a contribution to the repairs our bill now is promised to be no more than £400 and they are going to throw in a new flip key as our old one was knackerd! Is this a result?

Thats quite a good result you got. All because the book was stamped by VX for each service. This bring's me to a point if it was serviced at a VAT registerd garage with the VX parts. Would you have had the same result? I think not. So i still think it's wize to get the car service'd by the VX dealers. I know maybe a car will not give problems that need expensive fix's but in this case you save'd enough cash for a couple of full VX service's.
I think i'll stick with getting the book stamped by VX and pay their price's.

Good result, very nice to hear someone commend a dealer rather than slate them!

But shan...I've saved over £100 each year by NOT having my car serviced by vx. I'll take my chances...

ok, i buy all my cars from the same independant dealer, he sells them to me with the balance of manufacturers warranty, does all the servicing, stamps the book, etc. surely i have the same warranty expectations as the owner who uses main dealer servicing at a fraction of the price

I think it is still valid if the independant garage is one on vaxhaulls reccommended list

The warranty remains valid as long as the car is serviced in accordance with Vx's schedule, the work is done by a VAT registered garage and they use GM (or equivalent) parts.

    Anyway...
