Default Why no dab as standard?

Why are car makers not fitting these as standard now. Seems a bit daft. Are they just waiting for the rush and then cashing in then?

Another way to make money, they can sell you an upgraded radio when the old one no longer works.

Thats what I think. It's going to be like the old radio cassette player that some of them stick in there. No use to anyone.

I know a couple of people with dab, both home and in the car, and they have both said that at home with a good signal they are great, but in the car it is utter poo. You need a good clear strong signal for the dab but as a car is always moving it doesn't really want to work.

When the car isn't in the dealers, I always listen to DAB (CDC 40), Talksport, Radio 7, clear Radio 5 etc. Very rarely do I listen to a station that is on FM. Quality is excellent which is more than I can say for their engines..

If I lose the reception which does happen in some parts of the country and I go over to FM, for example in the morning I may leave home and have radio 1 on and as i drive through the next town and it will switch to FM the difference is amazing and you realize how poor the FM is.

I drive around 1200 miles a week so have lots of time to listen to the radio. What is a shame is that they can't incorporate the DAB with Sat Nav. I'm told it is beacuse of the different frequencies with aerial but who knows in the future other manufacturers can do it(Bentley's Lexus etc)

Apparently they are going to turn up the strength of the digital signal whe they switch off fm. Why can't we have it strong now?

Ahh, Talk Sport. Wrighty is a Legend, H & B are quality, Brazil is God!

But there are no plans to switch it off. They talk about 2015 but nothing has been decided and before they do that, they will have to go out for public consultation.

AM licences are due for renewal in 2011/12 and that hasn't been decided on what to do. The problem you have is that because it is widley used across the continent if you switch it off here what can you then do with it, nothing, because it would interefere with European signals, so they can't sell it off like they can with the TV frequency.

So it is assumed that the licences will continue with the government raking in some cash until Europe switch their anolouge services off. DAB will be dead within 5 years as DAB2 comes to the forefront with an even better service.
