    Default Spiders - HELP!!!!

Desperate for some recommendations on how to cease or limit the amount of spiders you get in the house.

Basically the Mrs is terrified of them (to be honest I've also got a bit of a fear of them). She is so bad though that she cries, threatens to leave and never come back and tonight even had a massive nose bleed cause of one rather large specimen we had in the spare bedroom.

We have an ultrasonic device plugged in near the kitchen/hallway but I don't think it's any good.

I'm wondering if any one else has ever bought one of the new version of these things and how effective it was?

Also alternative recommendations I'd be interested in such as the spray you can buy, if anyone has tried hypnotherapy etc.

We have already had conkers/chestnuts around the house for the past few years.
We hoover almost daily in every room(twice a day sometimes) and have tried to block or seal any gaps within the rooms too.

Any advice could be a big help!!!!

    Mark

If it wasnt soo serious for your wife it would be the type of situation to make you laugh... I know someone whos holds a Doctorate in Entomology, I'll see if any of his colleagues have an insight into the best method of keeping them out for you.

ps.. I have a spider living in my bathroom above the shower (3 weeks now lol), sometimes he gets a bit skittish when the showers on and i can see it having a panic attack as the steam rises and he falls slightly

Poor you and your wife mate,as spiders are really a natural balancing act of any occupied building,as they eat alot of the pest insects that can undermine health and hygiene.
And try as you might, they like us enjoy warm/dry spots, and houses are a favourite for most spiders, where ever you live.
I really like them, thanks to my mum and dad that were terrified of them, and from an early age, they asked me to pick them and put them out, thus installing a great element of comfort with them, and no fear .
Thanks to modern pshycologists recognising the 'mental torture' suffered by people with such phobias there are some great approaches to helping the sufferer.
Just incase you havn't found this link before, this forum with people in the same position as your wife may be helpfull and a start to the healing process....
All the best to both of you.

Thanks for all the advice - I'll be checking the forum out now.

Penfold - I had said the spiderpig joke when i suggested we get a dog and got the response "how the hell is a dog gonna climb the wall to eat a spider"

    Agreed.

The one we had till he popped his clogs a year or two ago was the same.

He found spiders to be great sport, often bringing them up on the bed when you were sleeping at 2:00am in the morning and gently depositing them on your face as a little present.

How the hell do you hypnotise a spider?

Joking aside, we have found several huge hairy hands in the new shed, we had one last night in the upstairs bathroom that was so big we have no idea how it got in the house, (should of had a little bag of tools over its shoulder).

I'm quite lucky, i have a four year old boxer dog that thinks spiders are supper!!!

The amount of spiders in our house at the mo is crazy, I was reading only last week that it's because we've have had a couple of mild winters and the climate has been ideal for them.

They seem to be getting bigger too, some of the ones we've had in the bath lately have been MASSIVE ! There is one hidding under my tool box in the garage, i've seen it dive back under there when I open the garage door - it's HUGE

I normally leave spiders alone and don't mind the odd one about the place but these MASSIVE ones intimidate me and get squashed LOL
