FMIC First Impressions....

Just got back from a 150 mile roundtrip over to my mums.

I wanted to see if I noticed any difference with the new intercooler fitted as per this thread.

It was suggested that I wouldn't necessarily notice anything straight away, at least until the ECU had changed the settings over time. So my expectations were small and I did wonder whether I would notice anything.

So, off I went on my journey. The first 35 miles was motorway, so I just stuck cruise control on.

Then my second half of the journey is 40 miles in the countryside, lots of sweeping bends, adverse cambers... you know the thing...

.......and then back home again.

My first impressions are great !!

1st Gear has become more useful, as I can feel power at the top end of the rev range

2nd Gear is just like first gear, full of power right through to 5,000 RPM (dont go beyond this...)

3rd Gear is very strong... but its forth, fifth and sixth Gears where I can notice a great deal of more pull.. in fact each Gear above 3rd is now behaving like the gear below it.

So 4th feels like 3rd.... 5th feels like 4th.... 6th feels like 5th..

I've definately noticed a difference already.

Also, where the car used to sound 'wheezy' and 'asthmatic' in third gear over 4,000 RPM... now all thats gone... just pulls to 5,000 and the exhaust note just roars...

Right - that's another thing to add to the list of things to copy from Spoons....

On a realted note mate, after all the mods you've done to the engine, how do you find you fuel economy..? I appreciate you don't always do a Driving Miss Daisy impression, but would be interested to hear how you find it...

Yeah... very good point.. I normally get 44 mpg

On this trip this afternoon (remember I had cruise control on for a fair part) but the lanes were 'interesting' ... I got a terrible 42 mpg !! average

EDIT: However, these figures are averages over 350 miles or so. I would expect things to be much lower if I just focussed on the 'country lane' driving part !!

Sounds really good - goes as well as it looks. I think a lot of people like myself would never make these changes but watch with interest bordering on fascination.

I wonder what the next mod is going to be. Sweepstake anyone?
