Default Oil question - okay to post?

Guys, Sorry about this, but would anyone mind if I started and OIL thread.
I've searched, for "DTi, Oil" "2.2, Oil" both of these contained to many results to display. Apparently the phase is to common...

Mods, please remove if you like, but does anyone know what engine oil is best for the 2.2Dti

    Cheers

    Matt

No problem asking the question Matt, oil isn't a banned subject last time I looked!

As for your question, I'd stick with the oil recommended by Vx in your manual. On my 2.0T it's 5W30, I think the diesels are slightly different.

Thanks, I know some Car Forums get funny about people asking...
So thought I would check first.

Ok, he was used rather heavily over the W/E, and I promised him some new oil, and a new Filter...

Castrol Recommend "edge" whatever the hell that is, and Mobil 1 seems as good as any.

    10w40 is is then..
Castrol Recomment 0W40 though. (at 42quid for 5 Litres!!!)
I'll just stick with Vx Specified oil, ay recomendations on Make though?

    Cheers

I've the 2.0DTi, and I change the oil every 6000 miles or so. I've been through a fair number of oils, and so far the oil that's lasted the best and hasn't cost a fortune is Castrol Magnatec GTX Diesel 10W40.

I used to be a Magnatec pessimist, but I must admit it really is quite good. Other oil after 6k in my car is either like black water, or like treacle. 5k in with the Magnatec and it's still keeping the engine clean, and not giving the top-end thumming that says it's oil change time.

Looks Like Halford is a scheduled stop on the way home then..

Yes, it's been 3k since his last change, but it's been a hard 3K.

    Cheers.

Mine only does 1000-1200 miles a month, but it mostly city driving. Engine can be running pretty much all day and yet only get 50 miles on the clock, hence the short by milage intervals.

Halford's is pretty cheap for Castrol - I get mine out of Makro and only save a few quid per can.

You normally get "use the search Button" or "OMG, not another oil thread". or "this forum has a search function you know" etc etc.

Omega Forum was a bit like that, but the worst one was the Landrover Forum... you had to search first, otherwise you where seriously flammed for asking a question about oil that been already asked. Don't know if it's as bad now, but it used to be a nightmare!

Thanks for chaging the title too...

    Cheers.

    Right, with you now.

Yeah, while it's always best to have a search first, and it can get 'tedious' if people ask the same questions and obviously haven't even tried a search, it's not always easy to find the answer you want - as in your case with oil being such a common word. At least you tried a search and so next step was to ask a question - and not a flame in sight.

No prob with the title, I thought adding the oil bit would get more people looking at the thread, and kept the other bit to tally in with your original question.
