Default Will the new insignia engines be chain driven?

Anybody know yet? Having the 2.2 I don't really want to go back to thinking about silly blumin cam belts
And also does anyone know if the Audis are chain driven or not?

    Does it really matter?

I have heard that a number of chains on the 2.2's have snapped.

I take it then that the chains are not known to snap on the direct 2.2's?

    (cause I've just bought one!)

The chains only snapped on the older Z22SE because the oil jet was to small. Never showed its head on the c because the newer larger oil jet was fitted. The Direct is the same lump but with different fueling (direct Injection) this was brought out for Euro 4 regs I'm led to believe.

Exactamundo. Belts are used primarily because they are lighter quieter (chains can become noisy with age/wear) and cheaper than chains. Simple as. The only proviso, as pointed out by Mark (GSI 3.2) is that belt changes should be made at sensible intervals, (generally @ 40,000 miles even if VX specify more). The 2.0T engine is chain-driven as it is derived from the 2.2 (i.e. detuned to 2.0 litres and a turbocharger added).

I believe that the 2.2 was already Euro4 compliant before it was replaced by the 2.2 Direct; the change was merely to embrace new engine technology designed to improve fuel efficiency, in common with a number of other manufacturers.
