Thread: Torque Curve...

    Default Torque Curve...

Here is a graph from Keiths Rolling Road at Weston Performance on Saturday.

.... but from what I understand, shouldnt his torque curve be flatter across the rev range. Although it peaks at 303 lbft it progressively dies off....

Is this how it should be and does it look healthy, or can he do something to improve this ??

Not necessarily, it depends on how the particular engine has been developed. Here's the graph from my remapped 2.0T.....

The blue is the torque line. As you can see it climbs nicely then tails off gradually (perfectly normal) but comparing the two, mine is flatter, Keith's is much more of a hump so it's going to feel 'peaky' and he's going to have to change gears sooner.

Only option I can think of is a remap.

That's what I was meaning - just didn't say it clearly. The torque curve of Keith's is basically fairly normal for a diesel I'd say, and the Ford engines may be particularly peaky?

If Keith wants a flatter curve, i.e more sustained torque, then a remap can sort that out. Cabby had this done and has got a really nice torque curve which was exactly what he wanted.

Ok then... so it basically looks fine..

Hes had a remap already from Torquing BHP and hes got an FMIC fitted also.

The chap at the rolling road said that he needs to change his turbo next, if he wants more BHP... ... and as he would like to try and get 200 BHP, I think a new turbo is on the cards...

Any idea how it looked before the remap? I thought the mondeos were quite similar to the vectra in terms of power etc, he doesn't seem to have an enormous increase in performance....

    or am I wrong?

remember on his torque curve how high his figures are, even when its dropped off a load look at the figure - 250 lb / ft at 3600 rpm, hes probably hitting 120 mph in top gear by then and its still more torque than powerful petrols make at peak. Its easy to be blinkered by the drop off but he's getting more than 300 lb/ft at peak. Must be a nice drive - im guessing a 2.2 ?
