to the site , did nt they give it a service for you before it left the forecourt ??? service is usually between £150-£200 depending what service and which dealer you use .

If you search this site you will find a huge amount of info on servicing.

IMO, do not go to the dealer, BUT do use genuine parts (or equivalents) and go to a VAT registered garage and service to the VX schedule. Then warranty will not be affected (EU Law on block exemption) and you will pay far less for the service.

I agree that dealers charge FAR troo much for services, in reality all that is actually done is oil and filter at first service. They alledgedly check some things, but these should be done anyway by the discerning motorist frequently (eg power steering liquid, brake fluid level etc)

It's all a con in my honest opinion and dealer use co-ercion and scare tactics to get your hard earned cash out of you, even though there are much cheaper option open to you.

I'm not anti dealer, just anti getting ripped off.

    ^^^.. ..

as ste said, you DO NOT HAVE TO get the car serviced at a dealers to retain the warranty...EU rulings make that practice now illegal..So as long as the garage is VAT registered and they use VX bits and oil then the warranty is intact..

and to re-iterate a point mentioned above.. 2.2's love fresh oil, so forget the service intervals and do an oil change every 6 months to keep the engine in tip top condition and that long pair of timing chains in good health..

Mines having its first service at main dealers next week. £139.00.
The mrs is having her vectra 1.8 sri done the week after for the same price, apparently its a standard charge for the first service. After being charged £280 on a megane and £390 ON AN S60 last year we're well happy with that tbh

many thanks too you all i get first service out of the way at vx (not sure about recalls etc) then once it is all squared away i will take your advice and find a good vat registered garage for servicing after that.
One other point you say change oil every 6 months do vauxhall have own brand oil only i wouldn,t want to mix veg and mineral oils

the oil you need to use is a fully synthetic 5W30 brew..don't deviate from that..Either use VX's own ( which i can get for you at trade as you're local to me) or use the best quality you can afford.. remember, the oil is the blood of the car.. cheap oil is not to be recommended by me..
