    Vehicle : Jaguar XF 3.0D V6

    Trim : Black

    Engine : 3.0D V6

    Year : 0000

    Default Bought or Brought ??

I have found something on here that somehow really gets to me. It is really odd why it does and maybe very petty, but why do people insist in mixing up the words 'brought' and 'bought' ?????

Eg, 'I brought the car 2 years ago....'

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO,

You BOUGHT the car 2 years and BROUGHT it home...........

Why does it annoy me so much????

It's not just on here, and I don't think it is a spelling mistake either. Just one of the little things that niggles me. I can't explain it, and i know it is petty.

Yes, I do work and work very hard I do. The mainly in the pub is a bit tongue in cheek, it probably isn't true. Are you actually mostly at the pumps ?? Again, probably not - but that's comedy !

I am not perfect - I completely accept that.

(This whole thread is a bit tongue in cheek BTW, so please don't shoot me.)

Nothing funny about the amount of times I am at the pumps !!! Spelling / grammer doesn`t really bother me as I am not the greatest at spelling. But (am I allowed to start a sentence with but ?? ) the thing which annoys me is capital letters for a whole post (Lazy) or text talk .. Wot U think ??

Yeah, I agree on the CAPITAL LETTERS BEING ANNOYING - mainly because it it difficult to read.

Text speak - I don't get it, is caused by pure laziness and has to be deciphered by the reader. I write everything out in full, even when sending text messages.

Grammar and spelling mistakes are one thing, using the wrong word is just bit more basic though.

True, none of us are perfect - but good speech is like good manners. It costs nothing for someone to speak their own language to the best of their abilities. There is nothing cool about deliberately speaking your own language badly as a badge of honour when you are in a position to avoid doing so. As for writing clearly not everybody is able to spell and punctuate correctly; there is nothing wrong in that. But perhaps if people were to check what they had written they MIGHT just be able to rectify their mistakes, but for some that is something that is clearly not high on their list of priorities.

It is no accident that this country has lower overall levels of literacy and numeracy than our major European neighbours, and yes there are differences between the figures for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. I believe the rot set in in the late sixties when the government of the day decided to discontinue the formal study of English grammar in the state sector, in favour of so-called 'creative writing', which put much less importance on the correct use of language, punctuation, spelling and grammar.

I write everything in full too, even using puntuation in texts!

I can't help it, it's out of habit from work.

My daughter's texts are flipping irritating & take ages to read.

    eg:-

    i wd lk 2 stp @ kts i b bk 2m k?

I told her no, unless you text in English lol
