    Default Internitent 'Parking Light' warning

    Hi all,
I keep getting a 'Parking Light' warning appear on my computer and a picture of a light bulb on the dash. This is irrespective of wether I have my lights on or not and when I check the rear clusters they all work. Sometimes I dont get a message for days then I suddenly get 10-15 messages over a short journey. I have disconnected the rear clusters and re-connected but getting no cure. Vauxhall have told me that they cant do anything unless the warning stays on.
    ANy help?????

Take out each bulb that relates to the warning and check for corrosion etc. Give the contacts a rub with emery paper if need be and check the contacts in the cluster. If there is no sign of corrosion then I'd pop in a new bulb, as a bulb warning light is often a sign that the bulb is about to go, and see if that fixes it.

I believe that VX call the front side lights 'Parking Lights', so the problem may be with one of the two bulbs. They also call the dipped headlights 'Driving Lights', and the rear tail lights (amazingly!) 'Tail Lights'.

'Parking Lights' probably refers also to the fact that if you switch either of the two indicators on fully whilst the engine/ignition is off you should find that the corresponding (either left or right side) front and rear 'Parking Lights' will be lit until you turn them off again.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers,
The annoying thing is how random the warning is. All my lights work fine (driving, side, main, high beam, brakes, fog, indicators, rear lights, third brake light). Ive checked each bulb and they all look fine, no corrosion or anything. Im convinced the computer is on some kind of computer drug as I have had some other strange faults. When I press next track on my steering wheel control for the CD, it sometimes changes to radio or goes back a track.

I love driving my car but these little faults are ruining my VX experience. I am seriously tempted to get rid of the car and flog my Spider tuning box. VX aftersales isnt the best in the world afterall.

If it's any consolation, I had an intermittent warning for one of my rear brake lights. Checked the bulb, swapped it over with others in the same and the other rear cluster, and it worked fine every time.....put it back and the warning came back...replaced the bulb.....and I haven't had the warning since, and that's been 18 months. Still can't figure it out...but am I bothered? No.

The rears got me until I realised that if you have a tail light out the car "steals" one of the 2 bulbs in the brake lights to use as a tail light. So you still have all lights working but they look a bit wonky to look at.

Yeh - real clever - same thing happens if you lose a brake light.

The rear cluster has 2 bulbs in the 'red sector' on each side, and rather than using a dual-filament bulb for the top one of the two on each side, it varies the voltage so as you brake the top tail light becomes a brake light with the voltage increasing from 5w (I assume) to 21W.

All 4 bulbs are standard 21w. All 4 bulbs (2 on each side) show as tail lights when you switch your lights on.

When I had a warning from the trip computer, saying one of the brake lights had failed, I expected to find a dual-filament bulb on each side.

Agree looks a bit odd with the tail/brake lights 'misaligned' if a bulb goes. Noticed it on a taxi - lots of Veccy 'C' taxis about here - so I told the cabbie he had a bulb out.
