    Default Petrol mpg records

Thought I'd start this thread going on what record mpg's people are getting out of the vx petrol engines.

My father in law borrowed my Sig 2.2auto last week for a trip to Devon from the North West of England. He drives with a light foot and claimed not to go over 75 with two people in it all week. In the week he did 750 miles and he didn't know but I'd set the mpg figure to find out what he did. When he came back I checked it and it read 44.6mpg.

This shocked me as to how well the car did seeing its an auto. My last car a Omega with the same engine/auto averaged only 28-30mpg.

What other record mpgs are people getting ??

I've got a 2.2 direct auto and get on average 36 to 38 mpg on my (mostly) motorway commute. Driven with real restraint I can get just over 40 mpg - however, in town, even driven carefully I struggle to better 30 to 32 mpg.
I feel that it uses more fuel when I use the cruise control, but I can't confirm that fact.

my average round town is 22-23, but on a run to say wales i can average about 32 mpg.
i think it is not too bad for a 3.2 v6.
what do you others with a 3.2 get?

Hi, i've averaged 24mpg in my 3.2 auto but it's mostly town driving. On a long journey at a steady 80 i average about 38 and on a long journey pushing mid 90's as much as you can, i get about 33mpg.

I'm very pleased with that I used to have a 2.5 auto Omega estate and I averaged 15.5 in town and the best i ever got was at a steady 75 on the M3 / A303 to the west country when I averaged 25.5. (And the servicing was out of this world expensive - i was so glad to get shot of it in the end)
