Default New Car vs Old Car

I have notcied recently how tougher old cars are compared to new cars.

Witnessed a crash between a F reg Fiesta and 55 plate Civic. The civic had a lot of front end damage and the Fiesta only had a broken headlight!!!

New cars absorb the impact for the passengers. Less force on the passengers etc. Older cars may have less damage but more force is given to the passengers causing more injury.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

new cars are designed to crumple more to absorb the energy of the crash.
saw a new shape transit run in the back of a honda accord a few weeks back and the honda was stuffed upto the back seat but the transit only had scratches on the bonnet, and the headlights were still ok even the front end was still pretty much straight as a die, when a transit comes up behind me on the motorway now i get out of the way quick!! lol

I used to have a Metro, that certainly was not tough.

It had the strength of tissue paper!

I never crashed mine but I know a couple of people who pranged theirs.

They used to disintigrate on impact!!

A Jag had a bump with one, the Jag was hardly marked, whereas the back of the Metro was stove completely in!!

Had a fiesta (mk 2) run into the back of my C estate last year.

The fiesta wasn't drivable, Whole front end was pushed in, radiator dumped its contents, bonnet pushed up over the windscreen etc etc.

When I saw the back of my estate i couldn't believe it. Very minor dent in tail gate, and one of the reflectors had fallen off the bumper!

They may have soft crumple zones on the front, but don't run into the back of a Vec Estate! They're hard as nails.
