    Default Breakdown/Recovery

Hi folks, who has their own breakdown/recovery i.e AA or RAC??

Have you had to use them? Happy with their service?

I was with RAC on my company car (peugeot 407) and used them twice in 2 and a half years.

Got me out of a big hole on a Fri night when my gear linkage broke coming home from Dublin. I had to be recovered from Dublin on a truck, over the border back into UK, Northern Ireland, then towed home on another truck. About 100 miles in total, then took me to get a hire car.

I am about to get myself sorted with cover now i have my own car, what are your experiences?

    My first car had RAC
Called them out once for water in the distributor, my mistake for switching the engine off whilst in a rollover car wash
They arrived within 45 minutes and resolved the problem within a further 15 minutes

    My next car had AA
Firstly, they went to the wrong service area, even though I told them on the phone "Stirling Services", but the van had been sent to "Kinross Services"
    So that added an hour
When the van did turn up, he couldn't find anything wrong and recommended I visit a dealership the following day

Several months later, again same car
    The alarm ECU failed
It took 9 hours to get through to the AA, due to "bad weather" in England
When the van turned up he too had been unable to get through to control to find out why he hadn't had any jobs all day, mine was the only one he got, and that was at 16:00

My first Vectra had AA cover
Phoned them out for a tyre change, the jack collapsed, and I have to shove the spare under the car!

When the AA cover expired, I paid for Auto National Rescue
Phoned them out for flat battery, due to the Air Con not switching off

I rejoined Auto National Rescue on my Mondeo
Phoned them out for a failed wheel on the M8
Had to get Police assistance to retrieve the wheel!
I then had to phone them out later that day after a HGV ran into the back of the same car!

Am a member of the RAC, and the service i recieved was superb.

My front pulley snapped at 1230, i called the RAC, the call was logged at 1237. They told me an ETA of 1 hour. The Service Van arrived within 20 minutes, diagnosed it and said there was nothing he could do. Put the Tow bar on me and dragged me home(Abou 12 miles), i was home within 45 minutes pf calling them. I could not fault the service i recieved and wont have any hesitiation af calling them again.

Thats not bad for 15 years and 500,000 miles!
It works out at one call out every 30 months or 83,000 miles

I've got RAC cover, never used them myself but know family have had no problem with them. AA on the other hand seem to get lots of bad press and I refuse to use them.

Got RAC cover on mine, had it now for 6 years on all my cars, had a few probs with them like 12 miles from home an they would only tow me 10 miles...(basic cover), but soon found the problem which was the catalytic converter (dead an blocking up).
The the other times were for trivial things like the battery was dead an the fan belt had split on my old rover 827 an wrapped itself around the cam belt, witch resulted in the car stopping rather quickly, but thats another story, towed me to the rover garage.

In 6 years only called them out about 4 times
