    Default Help Again! I'm sorry!

    Ok,

Some of you might remember the mis-fire I was having recently?

Well, Replace the DIS Pack hoping that would be it but nope, problem was still there!

The problem then "went away" of its own accord and the car was driving perfectly again!

Re-appeared again last night so went to see local garage and he plugged his scantool in. 5 faults logged, 4 misfires (1 each cylinder) and a crankshaft circuit fault.

He cleared them all and said to me to drive around for a bit and see if it goes again, then to come back and he'd re-read the codes.

Went for a drive and got the spanner light on so pulled over and stopped. Re-started the car and the light was gone but engine was still running a bit rough.

Took it back thinking that if I'd had the spanner light on then it would have logged a code but plugged in tool and no fault codes were logged!

I know it's had the crankshaft code there but would this be responsible for the symptoms? The fact that it normally idles fine but messes about when under load at low-medium speeds but runs perfect at high speeds?

Ready to take a sledgehammer to it - at least then I'll know why it's broken!

    Thanks All,
    Adam

I'd have a look at the crank sensor, it could lead to a mis-fire and poor running/limp home mode.

It could be the leads are breaking down, I had similar happenings with the wifes Vectra B, it would tickover ok run ok for a while then would misfire, have you tried "wobbeling" the leads to see if there is a possible break in the lead. I tryed testing the resistance of each lead [ohms] I found that one was a different reading to the rest, when I bought some new leads the car was fine and runs a treat. But it would be nice if you have someone who you could "borrow" their leads to see if theres makes any difference as the VX leads I bought were very expensive about £85 I think.

Thanks, I'll get them to order up the part and give it a go then. Any ideas what I should expect to pay?

Which leads? These cars don't have any HT leads as the DIS Pack sits over the spark plugs.

Edit: Sorry for all the questions guys, just don't want to throw more money away by getting the wrong part if it all possible! It runs fine at high speed - would this happen with a faulty crank sensor?

Adament, sorry if my post misled you then. I was not aware there were no HT leads, I know I can not see the spsark plugs on my V6, I presumed your engine lay out was the same as on my wifes Vectra B.
Have you changed the spark plugs as I have known them to show "strange faults too", anyway I hope you do get your motor sorted soon.

Just in case anyone's following this - just had the car with a spanner come up again!

Put it on the scan tool and get "Crankshaft Sensor - Invalid Value"

Pretty conclusive hopefully, new one coming monday!

pay no more than £40 for the sensor.... and don't pay for more than an hours labour as they are soooooo easy to change..one bolt to fix it to the engine block and then it just pulls out..

    Thanks

Off to get it sorted now, I'll keep you all posted

I can't grumble about it too much, 60,000miles without a single problem - just a shame I couldn't have charged it to VX Warranty!

    All fixed now

It was the crankshaft sensor - just took it for a nice long drive and she's all fixed!
