Is it ok to use Mobil1 0w40 in a turbo diesel if it isn't mobil1 turbo diesel oil? Costco sell it for £23 for 4 litres but they've never had the turbo diesel stuff any time i've been in.The only stuff they've had for diesels is magnatec 10w40 i think.

not really...modern engines have had their oil 'thinned' and now VX recommend 5W30 for the extended service intervals....But if you change the oil every 8-10,000 miles then you can happily use the 10W40 semi synthetic...

I get my Mobil1 Turbo Diesel Oil from this guy:
    http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZmattlewis100

He sells 2 x 5l for £52 plus £8.50 p+p which makes it about half the cost of Halfords.

Drop him a line as he usually has the oil available even though it's not advertised.
He's very busy and has a new child so less time avail but I've never had any problems with him the 3 times I've dealt with him.

Hi, did a oil and filter change last week for the first time since I got the car at the start of the year, put 5-30 fully synthetic in, when i started the car up, I got rattling across the top end and has been like it for a week so the other day, drained the oil and replaced it with 10-40 semi-synthetic, thinking that the 5-30 oil may have been to thin. still got the rattling when I started the car up again, but yesteday while listening to the engine I blipped the throttle a couple of times and it suddenly went quiet. any ideas if this was due to a blocked oil jet, type of oil or something else?. Worried about having the same problem next time.

you may have dislodged a particle of sludge that caused a blockage.. the 5w30 will flow far better than the 10w40 so it's not a 'too thin' issue really..Don't whatever you do flush the engine..but consider changing the oil soon again to act as a bit of a flush.

Hi thanks, you may be right, forgot to say that before I put in the oil I added a flush as it was the first time I had changed the oil on this car, don't often use it. So it may have dislodged some sludge which caused the problem, had I done the wrong thing by using a flush then?. Bit worried about it happening again the next time I change the oil, even without using a flush.
