Default Track Day - what Fun!!

Last Monday (bank holiday) I had the absolute fun of partaking in my first ever track day at Teeside aerodrome (the same place as the karting). I didnt do it the Vec, or my Astra Coupe Turbo, but in my brothers Mk3 Astra GSi. Its got a full Bilstein suspension, custom performance exhaust courtesy of Courtneys, and upgraded brakes. The interior has been stripped as far as the hill climbing /sprint rules let you with two Sparco bucket seats and a rather natty suede steering wheel.

I was very nervous at first , especially as top machinery had joined us, a couple of EVO 8 260s, E46 M3, WRx STi prodrived (300+ bhp), a couple of kit cars and my absoulte favourite, a genuine Metra 6R4!!! The first couple of laps were taken round by the course instructor leading the way showing the braking points and turn in points etc. Then we were off to our own devices. Everyone drove fast, yet sensibly, letting faster cars past without issue.

I was braking far too early to start with, but as my confidence grew I left it later and later until i was braking a little too late, but that made all the difference as I found trying to correct was very difficult and really made a mess of your line.

We did 15mins a time and left the car to cool for 30 mins between each stint. The front tyres took quite a battering, but they are only £28 a corner and were still in a decent enough state to see us home at the end of day.

All i can say is, if you fancy a go, then give it a go, its so much fun, and only cost us £50 each for the day including fuel.

I did one of those red letter type driving days, i got a voucher for xmas from the wife, my dad got one as well and we waited until summer where my mate got one for his birthday. so booked all three of us for audi tt driving then formula audi single seaters. was such a buz, the single seaters made you feel like a proper racer and the grip was unbeliveable. when the instructers took us round the track in the tt for 3 fast laps, omg they threw the car around like it was on rails. best £150 you will ever spend, and no car repairs or maintenance to worry about. only downside you own car feels **** afterwards
