2.2 Direct owners - happy?

Change of job coming up, so I'll be buying a Vectra in the next few months.

I'm probably going to buy an 07 Design. I've driven a 1.8VVT one and liked all the toys etc and it went OK but not wonderfully.

The 2.2Direct is technically only 10 or so horsies above the 1.8VVT, but I'm assuming it probably a torquier engine? The 6-speeder on the 2.2 is a nice thing to have for motorways as well I'm guessing.

So, my question is, are 2.2Direct owners happy, or whould they recommend just buying the much, much easier to get and slightly cheaper 1.8VVT?

I have a 2.2 direct and it has the 5 speed box ( 04 plate ). It goes well enough, I don't complain and it's good on the fuel.

I'd imagine the 1.8 is a little underpowered in a such a big car, the future is direct.

I had a 05 2.2 SRI and it was a flying machine; started to miss it since I got a diesel signum.

I used to have a 2.2 Direct. Its a very capable, economic engine with 0-60 in 8.5 and 36mpg on a run. I think people say they are very reliable also with no known problems.
For me personally though, I prefer my 3.0 V6 as its quicker and slightly more economical. But put a good tank of V Power in the 2.2 in it and it goes well.

Yep, i've got a 2.2 direct 5 speed auto. Had it down the motorway on Monday, up at 80 and it still had more power
