    Cool Wheels from Wheelmania

Hi, just had some GSi wheels and tyres I won on e-bay fitted at wheelmania, who was selling them by the way, they must have belonged to one of you guys, he said the previous owner upgraded to 19"s, anyway i'm well pleased, but heres the strange thing, for the last 6 months my steering wheel has been off centre by about half an inch, by putting the new wheels on the steering wheel was perfectly dead straight, anyway i was well happy but they needed balancing, so i get them balanced and the guy at National said do i want my tracking checked which i did and it was out, he adjusted it and now the steering wheel is out the other way by about half an inch. It must have been out cos with the original steels the adjustment would have straightened the wheel up, so does anyone know why the new alloys would affect the wheel? Sorry its a bit long winded but i;m confused ( doesn't take much ) Thanks.

Hi, What wheels you have on will not effect the tracking. It just seems that they have not done the tracking properly. Not to say the tracking is out but the end result should have an aligned steering wheel. I'd get it back there and have it straightened out,or do it myself.

Sounds like lazy adjusting by the technician. They're supposed to release and turn both track rod adjusters, thus adjusting the toe-in (or out) without affecting the steering wheel straight ahead position. If he's only adjusted it on one side, the tracking may well be 'spot-on' but your wheel will be off centre.
Take it back and ask them to put it right.

Lazy git's. Take it back and tell them to do the job they have been paid to do. As Doug has said, he has adjusted 1 side. The last time i had mine done, the fitter locked the steering wheel first then adjusted both sides to get it exact.
I've just had new wheels & tyres and they were supposed to have been ballanced. I'll have to get them done again as they vibrate slightly at "motorway" speeds.

Cheers guys, he did adjust both sidesbut what i'm surprised at is that the wheel was off centre before i put the new alloys on, after they were on the wheel was straight and i dont know why this should affect the steering wheel.

So you won them then. I did put in a bid. I PM's wheelmania to see what price he would stop the auction at. He said £300 so I took my chance as know one was bidding. Still went for a good price though.

thinking of getting rid of my 19's and getting Vectra GSi/Signum Design alloys. I find that with the miles I do the 19's can be a bit harsh.

Yeh, I did pay a bit over the top, they had some sri ones that went for £350, but these apparently had only done 2000 miles, i've no reason to disbelieve them, the tyres are mint and theyre about £120 new, wheels havent got a mark on them, unfortunate i had 2 more bidding against me and i only outbid the other bloke by a tenner, mind you when they fitted them he asked me how much iwon em for, i said i could have told him £200, he didn't even check.

I don't think you did pay over the top, I actually went in to see the wheels and they are as good as brand new.
