    Default Handbrake Letter From Vauxhall

    Weve just received, today, a letter from Vauxhall explaining that they have received a "small number of enquiries with regard to the Vectra and Signum handbrake system". They have, I quote -

    "co-operated with VOSA in conducting rigorous reviews of the system. Vauxhall and VOSA engineers have jointly carried out a range of tests which have not identified any deviations from the handbake mechanism specification"

    Does this mean the manufacturing process is building what was designed correctly, but the original design is dodgy? Who knows!

    So for those who have complained (not me) they have produced a small sticker to go on the sun visor to "avoid any misunderstanding when parking".

    This small sticker basically tells you to apply the handbrake fully and to always leave it in gear( and they telly me this is in accordance with the Vectra User Manual and the Highway code).

    So thanks for that Vauxhall, firstly I didnt know there was an issue with the handbrake and secondly thanks for telling me how to use a handbrake and not to completely trust it when parked on an incline!

    Has anyone else received this letter and has anyone had any issues with their handbrake?

    Apparently "VOSA supports this action"

    Yep, in a nutshell! Very poor! Obviously a problem of some sort and they have take the condescending attitude to tell people how to apply the hand brake 'properly'!

    A DHL Box with the aforementioned lever in it, with a covering note along the lines of;

    Dear Vauxhall.

    Seeing as you obviously think I am stupid enough to;

    A) Accept your guidance on how to operate the enclosed handbrake mechanism, after all, I have driven and succesfully parked a variety of different types of vehicles, including fully freighted articulated lorries, without incident or injury, totally ignorant of the fact that VOSA recommend I park in gear! (Sneezes and says bollox)

    and

    B) Think I'm stupid enough to accept a sticker on the sunvisor as an effective fix for this potentially catastrophic mechanical failure.

    I hereby enclose the entire handbrake mechanism from my Vauxhall and request a prompt repair, so that I can happily park, safe in the knowlege my car won't try and follow me. I have decided to send it to you in its entirity, as I believe it's a damn sight faster than trying to book my car into a Vauxhall authorised repairer, for a warranty repair.

    Thank you for your concern with this matter.

    Yep arrived today,
    Maybe the sticker will come in handy to reseal my chocolate raisins......

    Always park in gear,my mums astra has has the same fault,and it ran her over as she walked away from it,thankfully she survived,but with back damage.
    Had my battle with Vauxhall,too long a story but got sweet FA of them.
    Has anyone noticed how nice the Chrysler' s are starting to look?
    GM should not get to complaisant,the standard interior on Chrys'ls latest saloon is looking quite smart,the peckin' order in the mass produced motor playing field in this country could be about to go through it's biggest change since Ford Cortina' s ruled Britain me thinks....
    Quality is going to become an ever increasing issue,some big boys may just well fall short,could be quite interesting.
