    Default Computer problem

    I am sure there must be some computer whizz kids amongst us,here is my problem...
    I have purchased an MP3 player and when I connect it to the USB port [plug & play]it flags up "Device not reconised,"when I check out the device manager it shows as "unknown device",I am running XP with service pack 2 installed,
    in a nut shell.... HELP

    Which MP3 player? It mustn't be one that XP recognises. Did it come with a CD of drivers/software to install? If so, it'll need at the minimum the drivers installed, even if you didn't want to use the software.

    It is a Samsung the CD has been installed but it covers the music & media,As far as I am aware the plaug and play should automaticly [? ]be reconised and the driver within starts up

    try a different USB port, sometimes works. you need the device to show up as removable media in device manager. but usually can mean ****ing with searching fo drivers

    Only if the necessary driver is present in the library.
    Try install from a known location and insert CD and aim it at it

    If you have an icon in my computer, right click it and format the mp3 player.

    Can you right click on the icon which tells you it is unknown device or not working properly and install the driver from the CD, by browsing to it's location?

    If you insert the CD it may automatically run the install program.

    If you've tried it in different usb ports and your still getting the same problem you've probably got a fault in your MP3 player, even without drivers installed XP would tell what type of device is attached, i.e removable media, digital camera, mp3 player etc.
