The MOD were always paying out to the locals in Scampton for new Windows!
i love military aircraft and spent my youth building scale models of them. i was in the ATC and when i was old enough i applied for the navy as an air engineering mechanic but didnt go because i got knocked off my bike shortly before i was to go in and suffered some serious injuries. I love airshows but went to sunderland last year and it was a bit of a let down so didnt go this time. youre incredibly lucky if you can get to work on vulcans as they are one of my favourites along with the phantom and the lancaster. I dont know of anywhere up north were you can get near to anything like that.
I've seen this aircraft at Brunty when I was doing some work on the proving ground for work. Essentially the old runway etc are used as a proving ground for cars, bikes etc and we were running some vehicles round for a few weeks.
The Vulcan is in the hanger nearest the main entrance, and looks awesome.
I too remember a Vulcan at an airshow at Finningley in the very late 80's - the noise was something else.
apparently she was outside yesterday doing some full throttle run ups acording to the forum on the tvoc website
Oh wish i could be there!! - it hurts!!
in the hanger at the moment!
I remember seeing a Vulcan at an air show in the mid eighties it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Such a big noise coming from such a big plane. When it lifted off the runway it climbed near vertical like a rocket going into orbit and blocked the sun in the sky, absolutely wicked!
There's a documentry on the History channel (sky 529) at 9pm about this called "Vulcan Bomber:Return to the skies"
well Ive been away and missed the first flight!!
well done everyone!
