o/s indicator on instead of o/s side light

Bought vectra 2 dti ls (53)yesterday. One small problem, when the side lights are switched on the off side indicator lights instead. This is an intermittent fault. A sharp wrap on the headlight lens puts it right, temporarily.
There is also a intermittent bulb failure warning on the dashboard , possibly related to the above.

Any help greatly appreciated

sounds like a crimped wire behind the headlight, it might be earthing out on the light casing. Try removing the back of the light and freeing the cables to check.

you have a dodgy or loose side light bulb matey. When the on-board computer is notified of the faulty bulb it lights up the indicator to compensate.

Replace your side lights bulbs, then bobs your uncle.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in order to change a N/S sidelight bulb - my fat hands can't seem to get in behind the headlamp unit.......??

Have you tried removing the top half of the washer bottle filler neck, it just twists and pulls out. You shuold have more room then.

Thanks Ed - will give it a shot when the new bulb arrives - the local VX dealer wanted at least £50 to do the job....just ordered the bulb for £3.00....am determined to do it myself - how hard can it be...???

It is not difficult at all I have changed them on mine. If it takes 1/2 an hour that is about it.
