Default Whats this on my speedo?

Hi all I’ve been registered for nearly a year and this is the first time I’ve posted anything anywhere on any forum so here goes. Hope its right.

I got this up when I pushed and held the trip reset on the speedo with the ignition on. Could it be the software version or some kind of electronic date stamp?

Its the service int counter, have you got an early one or a later one, the earlies on base models i.e sxi and below just have a spanner icon, the others show miles, the miles shown if you have that one is how many until the car says it needs a service, but its all bull**** anyway, stick to 10k if you use 10/40 oil and 20k at the most if you have 5/30 oil, to reset it I think you do this, hold the button down and switch the ign on and it should reset, if not it's switch ign on and hold button, I know it's one or tother.

Ah, now you got a piccy up, not sure quite whats going on there, I think it is still what I said above, but the gaps between the numbers dont look right, are you at service milage yet, i.e done lots of miles since the last service?

    That was a quick reply.

My service indicator mileage reading is OK (under rev counter) this is the display which normally gives the mileage ect under the speedo. By the way the car was first registered in oct 2002 and is a 2.2 Elegance.

Does the milage go back to a normal reading when you release the button?

Looking at the digits, and the age of the car, it looks like you might have brought up some kinda date stamp for either the car or the speedo clocks.

The mileage for service resets as normal but, this reading has always been the same ever since I’ve had the car for about fourteen months. i.e it does not change with the mileage covered by the car.

Yeah, I'd say it's a time stamp, the clocks might have been replaced soon after the car was new, and that 01 03 bit is indicating the clock was fitted in Jan 03.

It was a demo at first registration so you may well be correct (repaired at no expense with the warranty).
But I have not had it serviced at a dealer yet as I did it myself. I'm thinking of getting it updated with the Tech2 soon for any software patches and will try it again. If anyone else on here is going to have a service/update maybe they could try taking a reading before and after to see if was a last serviced code of some sort.

I have an facelift vectra ??55 ??? plate, its the 1.9 CDTI SRi and my clock shows 004 04 when I try this, so it probably is not the date code as there were no facelift veccys then.

This definitely isn't the service interval, I had a Y reg Corsa that did it, a 52 reg corsa that did it, a 03 Vectra that did it and my 55 plate Vectra also does it. The key is to depress and hold the reset switch with the ignition ON and continue to hold after the trip counter has reset ... this is different to the service interval counter which is similar but with the ignition OFF.

I'm afraid I still haven't found out exactly what it is but always thought it was a software version. Be interested if anyone has a definite answer though.

    Dave
