    Default 120 / 150 engine and mapping

I have scoured these pages to gain some info regarding re-mapping a 1.9 CDTI [120] and have read 2 pieces of information that have got me thinking :-

1/ The 120 and the 150 engine are mechanically the same unit ( some confusion on Turbo size here) with the only difference being programme that runs the engine.

2/ A re-map will add 35'ish brake to either engine.

The question - Is it possible to re-map a 120 engine with the enhanced 150 programme and thus gain 65 BHP for a relitively low cost

The 120 and 150 aren't the same engine mechanically in the Vectra C / Signum. The 120 is 8 valve, the 150 is 16 valve so sticking in a 150 map probably isn't going to get you an extra 65bhp.

I'm no expert by any means but there are mechanical differences between the 120 and the 150 - the 120 is an 8-valve unit and the 150 is 16-valve. The engine configurations are not the same, so the starting point for enhancement is not the same for both engines.

I'm sure the diesel experts on here will enlighten you (and probably me as well). People on here tend to go for tuning boxes for diesels rather than ECU remaps which are favoured by turbo petrolheads like me.

Again I'm sure someone here will point you in the right direction

Edit: thanks Duncan, you beat me to it!

As said mate, not on the vec but the 120 and 150 in the astra are the same unit, thats where you might be getting confused.

The 8v 120PS seems to be able to produce simular torque figures to the 16v 150PS but at top end it's not quite so nimble.

Your right it does, it is the same as the older 2.0 petrol engines from Vauxhall, the 16v always produced more power but the 8v matched it and somes times beat it on low end torque.

The extra 8 valves only help cylinder breathing at high revs, so obviously low end torque is going to be the same.

    Default 120/150

Many thanks to all that have contributed so far. If I come up with a decent solution at a reasonable cost I will let you know.
