    Default Cracked alloys !

    Hi All,

Went to my local kwik fit today as my front tyre was going down over a couple of days. It turns out that both front alloys have cracks in. The one has 4 cracks around the inside rim the other 1 crack. The 4 cracks are 90' apart. There is no damage ( other than some scuffing). Please note that these cracks are ONLY VISIBLE ON THE INSIDE RIM so cannot be seen from the outside. The cracks are through the rim and slightly into the wheel itself. I'll post some photos in the next couple of days. Went to the local dealers who are gonna get in touch with vauxhall with a view to possible warranty etc etc, but i've had to order 2. Has anyone else come across this, also would be well worth checking your own just to be sure. Without the tyre going down i wouldn't have known, god only knows the possible results.

These are 19" rims by the way

    Regards

    Daz

Don't Ronal make the VXR rims?? Would've expected better...

Who makes the Snowflakes? Do they have this 'issue'?

I can't recall anyone with snowflakes having any problems at all.
But I’m sure Tommy (Bainie) had some buckled wheels, but these where the VXR 19's, no cracking though as far as I remember.
This obviously shouldn't be an issue in normal use, but with big wheels, ie, no side wall to the tyre, it is always a possibility if you hit a big enough pot hole fast enough !
I would also expect better quality from Vx in normal use !

One of my VXR 19" wheels had a crack on the inside of the rim, but as I bought them second hand I did'nt try to get it replaced under warranty.

A friend of mine of does wheel refurbs, welded the rim, machined it and re-painted the wheel, problem solved.

Ok all...here are the pics ! click on the thumbs for a bigger picture. I have pics with a 1p piece to show you how big the cracks are...found 6 cracks in all,,,,this was on one wheel ( 1 on the other) I have got to put this down to sub standard wheels, they are just shot to hell. Currently under investigation by vauxhall. Trading standards involved as well now, might even get them x rayed. Area engineer has to have a look first for a decision. This car is a little over 2 years old and 25000 miles. Never seen this before...at this rate i would be buying sets of wheels every 18 months.. Not acceptable for a performance car, just not fit for the purpose in my opinion. I have just bought 2 to get the car back on the road at a cost of £630 inc tyre swap over. Anyway here are the pics....

Got to agree steve....outrageous..! can't believe they have gone like this in such a short space of time. Here's an equation for the people who are responsible for vauxhall vxr alloys..... little town car + **** wheels = ok... performance car + performance wheels = ok...... performance car + s**t wheels = danger.... i firmly believe, in my opinion, that these wheels are sub standard and should cope better on a performance car, which vauxhall advertise as "are you vxr enough" well the car is but the wheels aint !!! bet they won't stick that on their advert. A car advert based on performance figures would suggest it is designed for driving at said performance, it's not advertised for it's economy ! so the qusetion is do i have sub standard wheels OR are these the standard that vx are fitting to their vxrs. Anyone with these wheels would be well advised to check them....quickly

    Regards

    Daz
