Eek So, how do you move a HUGE boat?!?!?!

Sorry if this is a bit picture heavy, but I just had to share this with you all!!

Spent a fascinating hour this afternoon watching our next door neighbour move his canal barge - they have been restoring a 60-footer for the past 3 years, and today was the day she was finally removed to her permanent home on the local waterways.

So - to start, you need.............one boat..............

    ……one big truck………………..

…………….and one VERY big crane……….(with a little man attached!!)

    ………….up goes the crane…………

    …………plenty of strong harnesses…………….

……………and make sure it’s nice and steady on the ground…………

    ……………hook her up securely………….

    ………………….heave ho!!!!!.............

    …………….and away she goes!!!!..................

    …………….steady!!!!!!!.............

    ……………………..mind the cables!!!!…………….

………set her down nice and gently…………..

    ………………just the job!..................

    ……..bye bye boat!!!!...............

It was pretty amazing the way they manhandled this giant vehicle out into the lane – the whole procedure took about an hour. Along the way they managed to whack two of the electricity cables together, and sparks flew!!! They managed to cut the power to the whole area (with the exception of Drinky Towers, which miraculously seems to have its’ own privately generated supply!!) - the electricity board have just been out and reckon he could be liable for a fairly hefty fine as he could have simply called them and they would have cut the power for him, to avoid the risk!!

It's a bit sad really, seeing the back of the old girl - it has been the local landmark for ages, and I guess that we will have to find another way of directing friends and delivery people to our house - it's usually been "drive for 5 miles and turn right at the boat!!!"

    Cool, eh?

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

I am going to miss the boat though, it was a pretty cool talking point!
