Default Hi Guys - I need some advice

    Guys,
I currently drive an astra coupe but im moving on now that baby number one is on the way.
I have my eye on a lovely black 2.2dti sinum 2003-reg. It looks great, but ive read soooo many bad reviews about it. Can anyone advise me?

What bad reviews have you had? I moved from an astra coupe to my Signum and I love it. They are about as reliable as you can expect from a Vauxhall, they do have their faults but what doesn't? Some people don't like them but if you do whats the problem?? They are a great car with loads of goodies!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Bad reviews? Are you meaning the Signum itself or the 2.2 engine? The 2.2DTi has the odd 'common' problem, the main one being turbo hoses having a tendency to split (rectified with a modified hose). Other than that I don't think I've ever seen a bad review of the Signum - discounting Jeremy Clarkson's ridiculous 'review' on Top Gear. I personally think the Signum is a car that because people can't pigeon hole - estate, hatchback, family car, executive hatch etc. - they then immediately think that it's no good.

Hi mate! Just to say when you said about all these bad reviews, if there all coming from forums and such like just rember thet people usually come on here for help with problems there having, you never hear or see any posts saying "Well had my car for 1 year now and had no problems at all" and when you think of the amount of these cars that are on the road there's bound to be probs at some point!!

You'll read some people saying to stay away from these tuning boxes as they cause damage to your engine but just to give you an example there one of the guys on here and he has owned two 1.9 cdti veccys and hes covered around 60K between them both and both of them had tuning boxes fitted and he towed a caravan all over the country and he never had any probs at all with either of them!!

Personally i really like the signum and its the only one i would change my veccy sri for!!

just a note to think about the signum gets poor reviews average 2/5 or 3/5 stars depending on which magazine you read. however the same magazines give the vectra 4/5 stars or more yet the car is the same engine gear box suspension etc, just a different shell . so the cars are a sound buy, just some people "in the know" dont like em the great thing about that is they are a bargin second hand buy. so get your cash out and be smug in the fact you spent wisely.

On my 2.2 DTi, the only Mechanical Problems its had are a Boost Hose, and the bottom pulley shearing off. Both are common problems, and with the exception of my car, pretty easy to repair, although the bottom pulley from Vauxhall would set you back £100 or so.

Thanks guys so far. I took the Signum out for a test drive earlier & it ticked all the right boxes for me taking the impending baby into consideration (ie space-wise). Well I started my review hunting on www.whatcar.co.uk and reading the individual readers reviews for this particular model (2.2d) and one of the guys slating it referred to this page among his jibes at the car so thats why i checked this place out. Any more advice would be good thanks.

If you like it and it ticks all the boxes what more do you want? Anything in particular you need to know?

Now the sites up i'll finih my post

I just looked at the what car site and found the post you said pointed here

Where to begin? I bought this car Sept 2005 from Network Q. I have had the following replaced; turbo, intercooler, cat, EGR valve, autobox, fuel pump, injectors, boost pipe, radiator mountings and other bits. Over £8k of work under warranty, the car being so bad Vx have given me £500 to go and buy a 3rd party warranty. The car is now at 70k and the spanner light is on again, meaning another trip to the dealers.
Avoid the 2.2Dti engine like the plague it is hopelessly unreliable (See www.vectra-c.com for proof). If you have an autobox from 03 to 05 and it starts playing up - new gearbox at £3.5k. Missing on a run? New fuel pump at £1800 just for the pump!
It is comfortable though, mine struggles to do 40mpg on a run. I guess it's a Friday car.

Thats more than you can expect from most engines, looks as if he was unlucky, but as said before no one posts that everythings great, just when they have problems. The 2.2 dti has been in loads of VX's. Frontera, Vec b etc. 1000's of these engines are in use now. Not many have had auto box problems and the fuel pump at £1800 is common for most modern engines. You think thats bad, look at the engine that replaced it, the 1.9 CDTi. That has its fair share of problems too. I wouldn't let this above put me off my car of choice. There were a couple of good write ups too. Overall 3 out of 5 stars for the owners review.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
