Default Beading around the window frame...

OK, so the VXRD doesnt have double glazed windows (yet..)

....but the house does and I've noticed that the rubber sealing bead around the window frame is squashed so flat, that I feel strong draughts and hear the road noise whilst the window is shut !!

Anyone got any ideas of how I can replace the rubber sealing thingy or any other low cost / low hassle solution. ??

Cos winter is a comin !!

Low cost option Steve, leave windows shut, put a run of silicon sealer around

Other than that, don't really know

Find an industial estate nearby, more than likley you'll find a window manufacturer.

The rubber bead "should" pull out, manufacturer should have rolls of the stuff, if you ask nicely they'll bung you some, (take a case of beer just in case) worked for me last year.

Try jamming a piece of card between the opener and the frame if it sticks then seal is fine. if you do need gasket then as stated find a window firm.
There should be gasket on both frame and casement, no guarantee on your windows?

cheap option could be to get a tin of expanding foam filler and squirt it in the gaps. when its hardened trim it down and sand it
then put some coats of paint so it matches the rest of the frame

I think it just sort of threads in and out, if you can pull a bit out and go to your nearest glass/DIY place, i'm sure you can get some the right size. HTH

    Brilliant... thanks guys...

I cut a piece of gasket off the window and took it down to a UPVC Window factory in Walsall.

They gave me 150 meters of the stuff, and said... "that should do ya !!"

So I've replaced the seals on the frame and the windows on all upstairs and downstairs on all 12 windows (the ones that open !!).. 72 meters worth !!

The factory place said they dont use it anymore on the new windows, so its was just sitting around... I gave him £20 for it

Oh... and its sooooo much quieter now... and no draughts... the windows are like new again...
