    Question Which head unit ?

Looking at getting an Alpine MP3 head unit &/or multi changer but unsure which is best.
Want to keep steering wheel controls.
    Budget approx £350

I'm an audio 'noddy' , so c'mon you ICE guys, what do i get ?

9850 RI, change left over for an amp and sub, possibly upgraded speakers, not that they're needed.

No No No, you want an Alpine XDA MP3 player. Just plug your ipod n and away you go, all your tunes at your fingertip's.

I used to have an Alpine 9855-R, what a stereo, superb bit of kit. It was in my old Vectra B until it was written off, and when i bought the C, i decided it would not look right in the Dashboard, so sold it for £150.

£'s per sound , pioneers are very hard to beat , thing is everybody likes a different sound so your better off going to somewhere decent that will let you listen to some different units in your car

Is the Alpine IDA-X001 worth considering ? £250 from Bass Junkies.

Just to throw my two-penneth into the mix, have you considered a DVD player and 7" screen?

I got a JVC DV-7302 for my corsa and paired it with a cheapo 7" fold out screen from ebay. HU was £180 and plays DVDs (inc. DivX, and with DTS 6.1 if you can work out how to wire it!). It also has a USB slot, in which resides my 4GB memory stick. Got a JVC-VX remote adaptor from ebay for £29 and it all works like a dream.

You'll need to either fashion a double-DIN fascia (I'm in the middle of hacking a standard single-DIN fascia) or you can actually buy one for £40. I've also wired a reversing camera into the monitor (£20, ebay again). Oh yeah, my gamecube is wired into it as well!! (Powered from a heated seat switch I bought).

Just something different for you to think about

Without doubt mate, if Alpine's usual quality is anything to go by, then this will be superb!!

Do a search on here, there was somewhere selling them for £229 not too long ago.
