Default Auto dimming mirror doesn't seem to work?

    Hi,

recently i've noticed that when I get a car behind me (at night) the rear view mirror doesn't dim, causing dazzle.

anyone else had this problem? Is there a fuse that controls the RVM?

    cheers
    g

Is the indirect night lighting (the orange bulb that shines downwards from the mirror onto the centre console) still working. If that light is working at night (when the engine's running) then I would suggest that the problem's probably in the mirror assembly itself. If the INL isn't working at all, then you may have a fuse blown or some other electrical feed problem.

hmmm. Yeah, just checked it and the IDL seems to function as normal.
Maybe i'll just mention it next time the car goes in, its still got 9 months of warranty on it.

    cheers,

I can only comment on the automatic gearbox models, but on mine it only dims when the cars going forwards. When it's stationary (in gear or not) or in reverse it's just a normal mirror. So, just shining a torch into the sersor whilst sitting at the roadside won't work. You need to get an assistant to shine a little torch into the sersor whilst your driving.
If it's faulty, you certainly want to get it done at VX's expense......it can't be a cheap item!

It came with an option package including the auto-wipers I believe. The indirect night lighting is an orange bulb (flush with) on the bottom of the mirror shining downwards. It has nothing to do with the car lighting switch, it comes on by itself (I suppose it must have a light sersor somewhere). It looks really effective, lighting up the central console, gear selector etc. Makes it all look a bit special (at night!).

Andy, What colour's your Vectra? I don't think I've ever seen one in that colour before. BRG or a bit darker? Metallic? Judging by the shine, you spend more than a little bit of time with the turtlewax!
