Wind Noise???

Was driving the Vectra for a change at the weekend and as it was warm had the windows open. Driving along round the lanes (30ish mph) I kept having this tendency to look over my shoulder as it sounded like a passenger jet plane had crept up into my blind spot unoticed and was about to over take me.
Ok it wasn't that loud but it sounded just like a jet engine (metalish sound howling I guess is a way of putting it) at a distance and was right behind my B pillar.
Doesn't help we drive round lanes often passing beneath flight paths.

Is this the wind noise the Vectra is known for having or could it be more sinister like I was actually mindlessly driving round Luton airports taxi ways unbeknowingly

Drivers window was open and drivers rear a little.
Sore subject, the missus didn't like her Corsa with a baby as summer time was stiffeling hot with windows shut & too windy with them open so she gets a car with air con but now prefers windows open and warm air blowing round rather than having the air con on
