Changing rear brakes on estate

Hi, i have changed brakes on lots of cars but I have an issue with mine.

a) I cannot get the poiston back in to put the new pads on. I have tried pressing it, turning it so that 'screws' back in. But i cant do it - any ideas.

b) On the new pads i assume the pad with the special plate goes on the piston side? (the original pads appeared to be modified and dont have that plate.

I think for the rear brakes there is a special caliper re-wind tool you'll need to wind in the piston

Hi, I thought as much. I tried to use calipers to press it in (eg a modified suspension spring compressor), but it wouldnt do it. And whilst using that you can't swivel the piston.

Yep, as above you'll need a rewind tool.

Re the brake pads - Vx have changed the style of the anti-rattle spring/plate on the rear pads. You got pics of the pads you've got? - easier to then tell you which one goes where. I'm sure I've got some pics of the same pads - will see if I can dig them out.

trying to do the job anymore without the proper windback tool is not going to do the calipers any good.. too much force on the fine threads means you'll wreck them and have to replace the caliper.. the tool is cheap enough off ebay..£25 iirc..
