    Default Heat stroke

Has anybody ever had heat stroke? If so, what were your symptoms and how long did it take to get over it?

Sunday morning I mowed the grass and did a spot of weeding, just as I was finishing up I went all funny - things seemed to be happening slight out of sync, I had a blinding headache and my vision was a bit wobbly. I rested the for the remainder of the day, drinking plenty of water and nibbling at things to keep my sugar levels up. Annie said I seemed a bit vacant and strange to her as well.

Yesterday morning I was better but still a bit "groggy" so as it now felt like a migraine we went and got some migralieve and that seemed to help.

This morning I felt much better and I just popped to the bank to pay a cheque in, on the way back I started to feel funny again. I've made an appointment at the doctors at 5:30.

Started to feel a bit worried now!

Yep, I had it a number of years ago when I was at an activity camp. We were doing a whole lot of activities, including a cross-country run, and it was a scorcher of a day. I hadn't hydrated enough during the day so part way through the activities I didn't feel great - headache, feeling groggy, no energy and a bit disorientated. Got back and laid down in the shade and was out like a spark, woke up a couple of times to - nice!! Basically kept hydrating myself and rested the evening and was fine the next day.

Do you get dizzy when you look down or get up from a lying position?

Also, there is a virus doing the rounds at the mo with very similar symptoms to what you decribe. Both my Dad and Brother have had it over the last couple of weeks. It's like flu symptoms but with dizzy spells.

Do you have spots (like red dots) on your chest? I've had it a couple of times, takes a day to get over it plus a couple more to be back 100%.

Duncan - Not that I've noticed, I did initially on Sunday if I remember correctly.

Ian - Not that I've noticed, but then again I've not looked for it either

I've noticed that I've had a constant "heaviness" on my right side and dull ache in my head. Just been reading up on it, and the differences between heat exhaustion and heat stroke etc, and I wish I hadn't!

I'm sure I've got a mild case (I hope I have!) and the doc can sort me this evening. First time I've had to go for over 7 years!

Thats interesting - I had a bought of flu a couple of weeks ago so perhaps I'm not over that yet as well

    Agreed with most of above...

The air pressure is very high at the moment and with a bit of sun exposure I'm getting similar symptoms as well (albeit less than you thankfully).

    Felt really groggy yesterday also...

Erm...how old are you, Juzzy? From a medical perspective, that sounds VERY suspicious indeed. I'll be glad when you've seen the doc!
